New Recruits Wanted to Boost Life-Saving Scheme
Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is appealing to community-minded locals in Bamby Dun to become life-saving Community First Responders.
Recruits will become part of an existing voluntary scheme, coordinated and supported by the ambulance service, which provides immediate medical care to members of the community in the vital minutes before an ambulance amves.
Community First Responders are trained in basic life-support Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and oxygen therapy. They are equipped with a kit which includes oxygen and an au~mated external defibrillator (AFD) to help patients in a medical emergency such as a heart attack, collapse or breathing difficulties.
“In Bamby Dun there are just 2 active volunteers; between us we try to cover evenings and weekends. But we also have day time jobs and families, so we cannot offer cover at all times. We cover a 3 mile radius from Bamby Dun, which includes Kirk Sandall, Edenthorpe, Stainforth and Armthorpe”. Colin & Andrew - Volunteer responders
Warren Bostock, Community Defibrillation Trainer at Yorkshire Ambulance Service, said: “We know that in many medical emergencies the first few minutes are cntical and if effective treatment can be performed within those minutes, lives can be saved and disabllsty reduced. “Being part of this initiative can be extremely rewarding and I would encourage anyone who may be interested in helping their local community to take on the role.”
Yorkshire Ambulance Service will provide will training to successful applicants who must be over the age of 18, physically fit and hold a full driving licence for at least 12 months with no more than three penalty points. Candidates will also be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check.

SCARECROW NEWS
Children from Barnby Dun Primary School, keep your outfits that you made for your fun day last term as the History costumes would be eligible for the Scarecrow Competition, perhaps the famous celebrities were sports men and women, another group this year is the Olympics, so very topical
Another category is a person from a children’s story book, and as this year is the 30th Anniversay of James and the Magic Peach by Roahl Dhal, there are lots of opportunities for Scarecrow outfits there. So get your thinking caps on and start saving clothes that you have grown out of to make your scarecrow for the Art Festival later in the year, encourage your older brothers and sisters to join in as there are four age groups.
